What Inspired this Novel

Surprisingly, this was not the original title. Inspired by a title on a writing forum that did not match the story to which it was applied, the Highrise Murders was born.

Brann McGowan began the Highrise Murders as a hard boiled mystery, but it was a style contrary to McGowan's own style. Because of that, the story never progressed beyond chapter one.

Years later, McGowan chose to dust off the idea. Still struggling to get into the mystery, James Robinson was brought in to assist. Robinson took over the protagonist, while McGowan wrote for the various characters with whom Sam Cooper interacted. While the team managed to complete the novel, one problem still existed.

After preliminary Beta Readers struggled to get through the beginning, but enjoyed the rest of the book, the team realized one important fact -- the Highrise Murders, hard-boiled introduction to the plot conflicted with the rest of the novel's voice. Therefore a new Chapter One was in order.

When the team got this one novel complete, they immediately thought of more crimes for the characters, both primary and secondary, to solve. So look for more books set in this world in the future.
